Bathroom Transformation: From Dated Family Bath to Modern Black & Marble Affect Shower Room

Project Overview

This recent bathroom renovation project was completed over 8 days (64 working hours) and completely transformed a tired family bathroom into a sleek, modern shower space with bold black finishes and matt white marble wall panels.

The existing bathroom featured a standard bath, pedestal basin, close-coupled WC, and neutral wall tiles. While functional, the layout and styling felt dated and lacked the contemporary finish the client wanted.

The Vision

The goal was clear:

• Remove the bath and replace it with a spacious walk-in shower

• Introduce premium black brassware and fittings

• Install modern wall panels for a clean, low-maintenance finish

• Create a bold yet timeless aesthetic

By combining black fixtures with AKW matt white marble shower panels, the space immediately gained contrast, depth, and sophistication.

What We Completed

Building & Preparation Works

We removed all existing sanitary ware, floor coverings, low-level pipe boxing, and wall tiles where required. However, we retained the ceiling, entrance door, and selected wall areas to streamline the project and maintain structural integrity.

The team then:

• Installed new studwork to form the shower alcove

• Waterproof tanked all wet areas

• Prepared flooring with 5mm ply, ready for vinyl

• Completed first fix plumbing and electrics

Plumbing & Electrical

We carried out full first and second fix plumbing to suit the new layout design. Electrical upgrades included:

• Removal of the old electric shower

• Installation of a new extractor fan

• Wiring for the LED wall mirror

• Electrical safety testing

All components were fully tested for correct operation and leak-free performance.

Key Products Installed

This renovation featured high-quality, modern black sanitary ware and fittings, including:

• 1500mm x 900mm anti-slip shower tray

• Nero black thermostatic mixer shower with overhead drencher

• 1000mm Nero black glass shower screen

• Purity black WC and vanity unit

• Back-to-wall toilet with concealed cistern

• Black LED wall mirror

• 600mm x 1000mm black heated towel rail

• Premium black accessories, including towel ring, toilet roll holder, and soap dispenser

The finishing touch was durable vinyl flooring, professionally laid and sealed.

The transformation speaks for itself. What was once a standard bathroom has become a striking, contemporary shower room designed for comfort, style, and easy maintenance.

The bold black accents contrast beautifully against the white marble-effect wall panels, creating a luxury hotel-inspired finish.
